About the Artist:
Hallie Packard is inspired by miraculous moments in nature that might seem mundane at first glance, but that sparkle with enchantment, seen or unseen. Growing up with the beauty of the woods as her playground, she developed a profound relationship with the natural environment and a deep-seated belief in its magic. As a child, the magic manifested itself as fairies and wood nymphs. As an adult, it has become more of a feeling; a recognition of beauty amidst chaos. Packard’s artworks serve as a reminder of the wonder that abounds and the respect and care it deserves.
Many of Packard’s paintings are set in a world where the presence of humanity echoes, but from a source long since expired. Familiar settings or subjects are infused with the surreal or “impossible”. Human-made artifacts take on new purpose, exploring the interactions between civilization, nature, and the passage of time. Packard’s paintings are metaphors for larger-world themes, such as nature vs. industry, climate change, and social/psychological dilemmas.
Packard was born in 1991 in New London, Connecticut, and at age three–covered head to toe in tempera paint–declared herself a “color artist”. Self-taught, she learned to draw by emulating the illustrations in Sailor Moon comics and various children’s fantasy books. As she got older, she began exploring her own style, finding a lasting love for acrylic painting.
In 2013, Packard’s artwork became the aesthetic core of Boulder, Colorado’s FATE Brewing Co, the town’s bustling central wateringhole. Her artistic career blossomed from there, and she began showing her work in several galleries in the Boulder/Denver area. In 2018, Packard moved to NYC, where she currently lives and paints. Her work is exhibited in the city, as well as all over the country and Australia.
