“Syd Bee is a Seattle-based painter that creates figurative paintings that often appear to exist in a dreamlike state. Working in oils, the artist employs a technique of creating a pastel-hued glow around her subjects. Bee enjoys the way the soft outer edges of the paintings feel optically; which enhances the mysterious effect produced by her oil paintings.” – Nathan Spoor, Hi-Fructose online
“Syd Bee’s vibrant oil paintings emit a radiant pastel neon glow, while the large glossy eyes of her subjects cast haunting stares and lure the viewer closer to the velvety soft images of her subtly macabre figures. Soft lines and pastel colors give the Seattle artist’s gorgeous work a delicate and feminine feel. This technique creates interesting contrast when paired with the sullen faces and melancholy glances of the animal or person she portrays. Tension and unrest play well with a would-be cheerful color palette, as she creates an atmosphere of a sweet dream, just seconds away from surrendering to a haunting one.” – Jaide Marchand, Paint Pens Collective
