About the Artwork:
“This piece evolved from a fairly recent sketch I had done digitally in Procreate. When the title of this show was announced I knew right away this was the perfect subject to fit the theme. I originally started to lay it out on a 6″x12″ panel, but I soon realized the blank 6″x24″ panel I had lurking just underneath that would add much more impact to the over all composition. I love oddly shaped canvases, so the strong verticality of this piece really resonates with me. I like how it adds a strong feeling of motion to the composition. Despite the main focus being in a relatively small area of the canvas, the little rocket man at the top of course, I enjoy how the smoke trail from the rocket lets your eye travel directly to him in the composition.” – Jay Hollopeter
About the Artist:

I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Southwestern Oklahoma State University with a degree in Studio Art/Commercial Art. I spent the next 20 years doing graphic design for various firms, including one of my own. I have recently moved to doing fine art full time. In a short period of time I have been lucky enough to show work in several galleries across the country including: Stranger Factory in Albuquerque, Grumpy Bert in Brooklyn, Artspace Gallery in Chicago, START gallery in Detroit, Go-Away Garage in Wichita, Zapow Gallery in Asheville, DNA and Graphite galleries in Oklahoma City, El Cuervo and Gasoline Gallery in Los Angeles, Lethal Amounts Gallery in Los Angeles, Art Market Gallery in Knoxville just to name a few. I’ve also had the opportunity to curate a couple group shows right here in Oklahoma City.
I work primarily in oils, although I do venture into acrylic, ink, marker, graphite and colored pencil. I like to keep my color palette bright and vibrant. My subject matter is influenced by anything from monsters and hot rods to pop culture and space aliens. Humor has always been very important to me as a subject, so you’ll see it as an underlying tone in almost all of my work.
I’m also the principle designer and co-owner of Double Danger Pinball Accessories. A pinball centric apparel and accessory company I founded.
