About the Artwork:

The drawings for ‘Soul Shapes’ are all inspired by a mix of things from 2018: a podcast called Ologies, a little bit of traveling, both inwards and physically, some visits to beautiful botanical gardens, people I’ve crossed paths with, and last but not least – life and death. Life is both fragile and brutal, and it’s easy to let our fears and sorrows limit the way we live.

This series of drawings is much about how life and death is a somewhat eternal circle. It’s about what happens between life and death, or death and life, and how it’s all pretty much connected. Dead things turn into earth and new things grow up from the soil. Over and over again. (‘From Dust to Dust’).

The drawings are about how things get ruined, then turned into something else – how you have to destroy in order to create. When your life falls into pieces, you have to start on scratch and build something new out of the ruins. It can be both confusing and frustrating, but also fascinating. Eventually things will bloom again. (‘The Ruins’).

It´s about letting go of things, looking outwards and upwards, exploring new sides of life, and starting a new journey. (‘The Journey’).

It’s about taking care of and helping the ones you love, keeping the people that mean a lot to you close. (‘Little Helper’).

About the Artist:

(Artist Bio)

Natalie Foss is a freelance illustrator and artist based in Oslo, Norway. She graduated with a Bachelor degree in illustration from Kingston university in 2013, and draws primarily with coloured pencils on paper, focusing on bold colours and emotions.

Natalie works in different fields, from personal projects and exhibitions, to commercial commissions. In her drawings she mixes the flat, almost graphic, with the 3-dimentional and detailed – often portraying alienated beings adorned by 60s/70s inspired pattern and motifs.

She finds inspiration in the everyday life, all from thoughts and experiences, the up and downs, to people, music, subcultures, fashion, patterns, light/shadow and other observations.
