About the Artwork:
“When pondering potential interpretations of the show’s theme, Uniquely Universal, I knew I wanted to create a painting exploring a universal human trait or condition. Since I had a lovely antique frame in my collection with a grapevine motif, I thought it would be fun to pay some tribute to the Greek god Dionysus, which led me down a rabbit hole exploring themes surrounding excess, indulgence and hedonism. The painting I ended up creating ended up being more of a nod to the story of the Lotus Eaters from the Odyssey. Hieronymus Bosch’s Garden of Earthly Delights was also on my mind, hence the strawberry.” – Gretchen Lewis
