About the Artwork:
“Most of my work is usually based, however loosely, on some sort of reference image that I find. That’s not the case with this drawing. One day I was looking at one of my old paintings and traced a few shapes I really liked, then went on doodling until the ‘Nature Spirit’ emerged. That became an early draft for this drawing, which now barely resembles the painting it started from.” – Catriona Secker

Catriona Secker is an artist and teacher living in Sydney. She received her BFA from the College of Fine Arts, NSW and her work has been exhibited in galleries in Australia and Hong Kong. Her artworks are inspired by old natural history illustrations and biology texts and are influenced by visual styles ranging from illustration, fine art, visionary and decorative arts.
