About the Artwork:
“I painted these moths during a lonely and isolated time in the pandemic. I worried and fretted for my loved ones, not being able to see them. I thought of the moment when I would be reunited with them. How I wanted to rush into a tight hug. But until then: marsh mallow flowers symbolize protection and health. I wish to surround them with these blossoms until I can see them again.” – Niky Motekallem
About the Artist:
Niky Motekallem is an Iranian-American illustrator who depicts flora and fauna in various states of decay. She uses intricate lines and bright colors inspired by their Persian roots to depict rot and rebirth. When she isn’t working in the studio, Niky is figure skating, brewing a decadent cup of tea, meandering in antique shops for inspiration, on hikes with plant identification guides, or crying over an anime episode.
