About the Artwork:

“This small drawing is presented in a thick black matting and the same color frame to create the effect of isolation. It is contained while being emphasized. This piece depicts the dilemma of first generation immigrants like myself in finding a place to belong in between two countries.” – Reiko Murakami

About the Artist:

(Artist Bio)

Reiko Murakami is a US based illustrator specialized in surreal fantasy art. Her work’s subtle texture effect is created by layering a variety of thin paper media such as tracing paper on top of graphite drawings. Often the image is finished with a white ink drawing of a secondary image that either emphasizes or counters the symbolic meaning of the base figure.
