About the Artwork:
“Colombian folklore is full of amazing and often terrifying myths and legends. One of the most popular is the legend of El Mohan, a mysterious being with long, abundant hair, piercing eyes, dark skin, that is usually smoking a cigar; He inhabits hidden caves at the bottom of rivers and lives only to cause mischief, scare fisher men and abduct women; however, some believe he is there to protect nature and to punish those who don’t take care of it. I find legends like this one fascinating not only for the story but for what it tells about our culture and beliefs. This piece is just another way to reflect on my culture and heritage and a way to dig deeper into these stories and reimagine them through my art.” – Diego Peñuela
