About the Artwork:
“A rare and favourite piece, an untapped aesthetic, that will be the basis of a new body of work for 2022.
Splayed on the floor, she chews the friendly cartoon stars as they float above. Her teeth clamp tight with no release. The uncomfortable tension is felt as she pulls at the edges of her jacket hoping it will end but can’t control her urge to consume. She longs to be pulled away, to some place distant.” – Luke Rion
About the Artist:
(Artist Bio)
Luke Rion is a New Zealand born artist, who is currently based out of Melbourne Australia. For the last decade his practice has explored figurative and still life subjects, with a particular focus on our nostalgic relationship with objects and the negative space in which they inhabit.
In his latest body ‘Lost Relics’ Rion journeys through childhood video game nostalgia, and how something so vivid and so relevant in youth fades and eventually becomes discarded and lost. A comment on our ephemeral rituals with technology.
