“This painting is of a Northern Red Bellied turtle surrounded by marsh marigold flowers. I have wanted to paint a turtle since last summer, when I saw a couple of them all trying to climb onto a log in a lake. It wasn’t successful for most of them.” – Niky Motekallem

Niky Motekallem is an Iranian-American illustrator who depicts flora and fauna. They use intricate lines and bright colors inspired by their Persian roots to depict natural life. When they aren’t working in the studio, Niky is figure skating, brewing a decadent cup of tea, meandering in antique shops for inspiration, on hikes with plant identification guides, or crying over an anime episode.
