About the Artwork:

“Flaco the Eurasian eagle-owl escaped his long standing residence at the Central Park Zoo when his stainless steel mesh enclosure was cut open by an unknown vandal. He was discovered missing at 8:30 p.m. on February 2nd, and members of the zoo began a search for the precious bird. Flaco made his way to 5th avenue and 60th street, and took a short stroll down the sidewalk. He was soon surrounded by onlookers and police, who tried to lure him to safety, but he felt that they were a little too close for comfort and took flight. He perched on a beautiful old tree that made its home alongside 5th avenue, and enjoyed people watching until the sun rose the following morning. He then flew to Central Park, his favorite piece of land within the concrete jungle that is Manhattan. Flaco found another perch, this time a branch that was flooded with warm sunshine on this cold winter morning. He felt the cool breeze against his face in the glowing daylight, closed his eyes, stretched his wings, and enjoyed this moment of blissful freedom in this new chapter of his existence.” – Juliet Schreckinger

About the Artist:

(Artist Bio)

Juliet Schreckinger is a Long Island, NY based artist. Her work is typically created using a stippling technique in pen & ink and graphite, with occasional splashes of color. Juliet’s pieces are inspired by the ocean, nature, and all of the creatures within our world. Since the time she was a child, Juliet has been fascinated by black and white photography, colorless television shows, and film noir movies. Being exposed to the lighting effects and sharp contrasts shown in these photographs and films greatly inspired the type of work that she does today. Juliet’s work is centered around giving a voice to nature and animals, with the goal of showcasing their importance in this world. Through an illustrative take on fine art, she attempts to express a story in each drawing.
