About the Artwork:

This piece is part of a developing body of work that references an abandoned pear orchard next to the home where I grew up – a small patch of land that’s remained mostly untouched in an area filled to near capacity with suburban development. Its physical presence is relatively small, but the woods and orchard loom large in my memory and dreams. I’ve incorporated both classic and personal motifs alluding to the life cycle, abundance, and loss. Much of my most recent work is influenced by seasonal celebration, connection between the body and the landscape, and transformation myths found throughout folklore. – Sarah Boyce
