About the Artwork:

In this painting I wanted to portray a sort of dissonance that represents anxious thoughts and emotions even in a calm setting, and learning to be still and unbothered, even with them circling. The sharks represent a thought loop when stuck ruminating on an emotion or situation. I was also inspired by the old saying “red sky in the morning, sailor’s warning; red sky at night, sailors delight” and painted a crimson sky to foreshadow the intense emotions lurking beneath the glassy surface. However, it can also have a completely different meaning, depending on what time of day the viewer perceives the painting to be. The sun rising / setting detail also represents hope and a light in trying and troubling internal turmoils. – Julia Jenkins
