About the Artwork:
“VESSEL 16 is a part of my series titled ‘Vessels’. This series explores ideas of the body as a vessel containing all experiences and how said experiences alter, expand, and modify the self. The use of geometric and biomorphic forms compound inside and overflow from the subjects, creating a cacophony of shapes, forms, and color fields.” – Holly Mathews
About the Artist:
(Artist Bio)
I am a fine artist currently located in Savannah, Georgia. I received my Bachelor of Fine Art degree in 2012 from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and my Master of Fine Art degree from the PennsylvaniaAcademy of Fine Arts in 2017.
My practice revolves around the concept that traditional skill and contemporary dialogue can not only exist within the same image, but also that each can greatly strengthen the other. I generally works with oil, acrylic, and encaustic mediums, but collage and a variety of experimental techniques are also employed to push the technical narrative of the work. The major themes present in my work are ideas of identity, personal and collective histories, relationships with place and nature, mythology, and the body as subject.
