About the Artwork:
“This piece is somewhat of a ‘sequel’ to a series of paintings I did back in 2011. I’ve always liked the visual of an owl clutching a D&D die and wanted to explore the concept further. That said, painting those owls was really really challenging, to the point where I vowed never to paint another one! Fast forward 9 years and I was finally ready to give it another go. And yes, painting an owl was just as tricky as I remember it being, but I really enjoyed the challenge.
This is also a painting that is about the change of seasons. Fall has always felt like a time of transitions to me, a gateway of sorts. I wanted to capture that sense of change. I also wanted to illustrate the balance between chance and fate. This has been a very strange and difficult year, but it does feel like we’re on the precipice of something new…and hopefully better.” – Johannah O’Donnell
