About the Artwork:
“I wanted to create a painting that borrowed from the title of this show as a launching point for exploration. I suppose the idea of “eternity” can only be hinted at through the temporal, so I was aiming for a sort of transcendence with an image that dealt abstractly or intuitively with the origins of life. I don’t know why, from there, I ended up with a snail.” – James Oberschlake

I’ve gone from horror illustration in the mid-nineties, to a stream of fantastic or ‘visionary’ work, then to highly expressive abstract painting in grad school, 2011. Now, fueled by an obsession with materials and processes, I’m jumping all over those territories to try and unite what interests me most.
