About the Artwork:

“I suffer from depression since many years and I spent the whole lockdown alone in my apartment in Milan. I had a strong burnout and I just couldn’t draw anything for a few months. I started buying some plants to have “someone” to talk to and to take care for and I began training to feel a little better. I was forced to face myself every day, myself only. So I decided to try something new to overcome my artistic block and I took some picture of my body at the mirror ’cause I was starting to love myself for the first time in my whole life. In these two artworks I tried to summarize the pain of those days and my efforts to not fall in the dark.” – Anna Chiara Stagi

About the Artist:

(Artist Bio)

I’m Anna Chiara Stagi and I’m an illustrator.

I attended the Artistic High School and then graduated in Graphic Arts at Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milan.

In 2021 I took part in the exhibition Self Portrait. Autoriflessioni di giovani artisti dell’Accademia di Brera with the drawing Luce Fuori. I designed the cover of the academic text Produrre l’impatto: verso una comprensione dell’esperienza d’ascolto del Death Metal and the interior art of the novel The Drunk Fury. Ascension Island. I am currently co- operating with the art gallery Looking for Art in Milan.

My subjects and style draw on traditional folktale imagery but strongly influenced by cinematographic creatures or video games characters. It’s fascinating what human mind is able to create when it falls to give itself a rational explanation. At first my characters may seem disturbing but, once understood, they stop being hostile and become precious allies.
