About the Artist:
(Artist Bio)
Andreas Nagel (born 1988) is a painter living and working in Brühl, Germany.
His paintings are figurative, and range from simple portraiture to powerful landscapes. It incorporates social, psychological, and mystical themes, usually infused with a dark sense of humor. Distorted figures and szenerie, separate the Artworks from the photographic ideal, creating a deeply personal reality. His work is uncomprimising, twisted and offbeat.
(Artist Statement)
Art is a powerful visual language. I employ fantasy and satire to unravel the complexities of the human story. The works are rich in symbolism, reflecting life experience and issues of a wider nature. The paintings are often deeply personal that mirror contradictions within all of us-light and dark, peace and violence, life and death. Such dualities fill our lives. Despite having a conflicted outlook I weave humour through the narratives of my work, conveying the absurdity and pathos of a situation.
