About the Artwork:

I have no idea why I made this. _Kermit Devouring Piggy_ started as this weird, persistent image that kept showing up in my head—standing in line, taking a shower, any time my mind went quiet, there it was. It wouldn’t go away until I painted it.

Before painting, I sculpted a 12-inch model of Kermit and the ham, then played around with lighting and photography until I had the perfect reference. That process helped me figure out how the light would hit Kermit, making the final painting feel more dramatic and real.

The piece is loosely based on Francisco Goya’s _Saturn Devouring His Son_, swapping out the monstrous titan for Kermit the Frog standing in the shadows, holding a holiday ham. There’s something funny about it, but it’s also a little disturbing, and it is one of those paintings that makes people stop and ask, _Why does this exist?_—which, honestly, I wish I knew. – Jake Mensinger
