About the Artwork:

One of the most persistent roadblocks I encounter as I navigate the uncertainty of being a professional artist is preparedness (or more specifically, confidence in my preparation). While I understand that it is impossible to predict the inevitable curveballs, detours, and turbulence this journey holds, I continue to try, squandering precious time agonizing over what could go wrong. I find myself in a perpetual balancing act, rocking back and forth between trusting my own abilities and fearing that I’m in too deep, heading into certain peril.

This piece illustrates this tension, likening my artistic journey to being caught in a raging tempest. It serves as a reminder that experiencing bouts of discomfort, even disappointment, are necessary for discovery. To successfully embark into uncharted territory is a matter of perspective: I can either succumb to feelings of inadequacy that will always be there or keep my eyes firmly forward & trust that I can be ready for what is to come. – Jerome Tiunayan
