About the Artwork:
“The idea for this image started small and grew in my mind over a long period of time. It was sparked by a small detail on an illustration of some algae. I thought of some roundish thing that floated above the landscape and produced seeds that would grow and fall down into the earth. That thing became the “Nature Spirit” which I later decided to base on a character from an old painting, which was inspired by a pattern on a rug in my home. The landscape section was based on an illustration of the close up details of the centre of a lily, and I then worked out the details at the bottom to fit the picture. It was a challenging composition, but in the end I think that it conveys the feeling of abundance, growth and fertility that I wanted to express. I am fascinated by processes in nature, and the consciousness that lies behind those processes.” – Catriona Secker
