About the Artwork:

‘A Pain Travesty’ depicts a chaotic, chroma contrasting scenario where a tragic car crash is imagined by someone never tarnished by such violent pain. A novice of feeling that, at midst the journey of experiencing hardships in life, encounters in it’s digital experience a glimpse of what real suffering might be, but never experienced fully in the flesh. This encounter seduces, but abject her at the same time, as pain in our own self burns unbearably, but in another’s body and far at the other side of the screen, it’s romanticized, tolerated, ennobled or, is it perhaps a way to fulfill a now distorted emotional void that’s been dragged from her past? An appropriated experience that’ll procure that desperate need of feeling alive again.

The image transcends the territories of reality and merges into fantasy, between the familiar and the strange at the border of what is human and what its synthetic. It places doubt whether if happened or not and questions our own perception of what is real pain and if we have or have never experienced it.

Painting part of ‘The Tragedy of an Easy Life’ painting series.

About the Artist:

(Artist Bio)

Kikyz1313 is a fine artist born in 1988 in Querétaro, Mexico, and creates both beautifully intricate graphite drawings and oil paintings.

From beneath the initially alluring, and understated, first impression of the works, emerge unexpected oppositions and abject tensions. Studies in the afflicted wretchedness of humanity, her work is neither despondent nor obviously gory, but rather presents an aestheticized nightmare of sublime abhorrence; ambiguously gorgeous despite its agonizing discomfort.

She received a BFA from the Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro, and debuted her first solo exhibition at the Museo de la Ciudad de Querétaro, which followed a bloom of gallery and art fair group exhibitions along the USA, Europe and Mexico along several features in acclaimed art magazines such as Juxtapoz, Beautiful Bizarre Magazine, Hi Fructose among others.

Her endeavors have also resulted in solo exhibitions in 2016 with ‘The Progeny of Chaos’ in Los Angeles, California; and further in 2017 with ‘Body Puzzle’ in Boston.

Showed in several art fairs and group exhibitions in the USA, Berlin and London as recently presented her second solo show entitled ‘The Progeny of Chaos’ in Los Angeles, California.
