About the Artwork:

“GACHA draws inspiration from the Japanese slang term ‘Oya-Gacha’, which relates to the randomness of gacha machines. The idea of this word is that children do not get to choose their parents. Some may be fortunate and consider themselves winners of the “parent gacha,” while others, not as fortunate, might feel they lost it. Just as not everyone can acquire the super rare, powerful items in gacha games, not everyone in real life has the privilege of being born into ideal circumstances. The painting serves as a poignant reflection on how life’s circumstances can be as unpredictable as the outcome of a gacha machine, reminding viewers to contemplate the arbitrary nature of privilege and the importance of empathy. “ – Yuki Murayama
