About the Artwork:

“When I was a young girl, my father showed me the movie Jaws the day before a beach trip. He told me, “Remember they can get you in three feet of water.” That statement started me on the journey of finding beauty in things that might scare others. In the movie Jaws, Captain Quint talks about the sharks as having “lifeless eyes, doesn’t seem to be livin’… until he bites ya.” But I find the moment before a shark devours it’s prey, when they have a white membrane covering their eyes, to be far more unsettling. I tend to paint sharks where this white lens is visible. I use sharks as a means to explore my personal fears of loss and death, often in a humorous way.” – Sarah Pinner
