About the Artwork:
“My recent artwork has been inspired by 60’s sci fi films and the literary masterpiece ‘Frankenstein’ by Mary Shelley.
This psychedelic piece takes place on a distant planet where the creatures routinely alter and replace parts of the body, while also reanimating beings who were no longer considered ‘alive’. A human-like floating life form shoots unidentified yet extraordinary lasers into the mechanism that is reactivating animation.” – Ten Yetman
About the Artist:
Ten Yetman is a visual artist born in Winnipeg, Canada. After attending the Fine Arts Program at the University of Manitoba (2004-2009) she spent many years living in Mexico City and afterwards in Nagoya, Japan teaching art classes and exhibiting her work. Heavily influenced by her experiences abroad, her work explores cultural and historical expressions of death and immortality. After moving back to Canada in 2013 she has been continuing to paint and exhibit work in Canada and the United States.
Ten’s work is a seductive hyper-juxtaposition, referencing both fun bright colours and patterns, parties and beach scenes and “uncomfortable” images of horror. Her most recent work features creatures of her own invention and has been heavily influenced by the cemeteries of Real de Catorce, Fellini Films, DEVO music videos, 80s’s fabrics, Renaissance Art, 1950’s and 60’s Sci Fi films, Monty Python, Space Travel and British Literature.
Recently Ten’s work has been featured in Group shows at Arch Enemy Arts in Philadelphia, La Luz de Jesus in LA and Trash Lamb Gallery in San Diego.
