About the Artwork:

“TANGLED was a really satisfying risk, using a support I had never worked with before. But as soon as I saw these Basswood rounds at the art store, I was immediately inspired. I knew I wanted to play with something that would let the lovely texture show through and trying to keep the image simple and not overworked would be my biggest challenge. So after some sketching I settled on a subject matter I loved and was more comfortable with since I was doing so many other new things. (I never tire of drawing and painting snakes!) This one ended up being a meditation on dependence and coping mechanisms and once I figured out what the symbology meant to me, I knew adding a pop of color would be the right choice if a bit of a risk, since there was really no room for mistakes on this surface. I loved the result and already hope I can make time to do more pieces on these wood rounds. They make such a unique and striking art object.” – Kristina Carroll
