About the Artwork:
“For most of 2021 I’ve been checking in on my body and self with an objectivity brought on by chronic pain and illness. Like slipping into the void for a moment, seeing myself, then exiting. Although I often use the archetype of a nature goddess as a vessel to navigate themes of power and desire, I aim to project vulnerability onto this cosmic being. At the end of the year someone is checking in on us while we plunge our heads into the new year. The viewer and the subject have met each other unexpectedly in this void.” – Colete Martin
About the Artist:

Colete Martin is an acrylic painter and illustration professor living and working in Denver, Colorado. Raised in the mountains of Southern Oregon her work calls on the power and severity of a natural landscape which her subjects channel. Colete received her BFA from the School of Visual Arts in NYC in 2020. Her background in illustration heavily influences her decisions when composing paintings.
