About the Artwork:
“This work documents the process of letting go. Of preconceptions about myself, my art and my process, and the relationships I have with all of them. The struggle to escape the darkness into the light, a rebirth from the internal nightmare that tries to claw me back into the abyss. Basic and base, all consuming and powerful, I must pull myself from her warm, suffocating embrace to emerge into the cold heartless light. The old saying that you needn’t cover crabs in a bucket, as they cannot escape, any that try to climb out will be clawed back down into the depths by the other crabs. My inner critic whispers poisons about safety, sensibility and audience appeal, caressing me back down into the drowning deep.” – Andrew Swarbrick
About the Artist:
(Artist Bio)
Andrew Swarbrick based in north Canterbury, New Zealand has been working in oils for over 13 years. His work is an exploration of mental and existential states, philosophy and spirituality, conveying moods and story with striking images from his imagination. His heavy use of symbolism in the surreal worlds he creates only adds o the layers of these multi-faceted works. Ranging from the fun, playful and mundane, which can be enjoyed as merely striking images, to the deeper layered visions to be explored as deep oceans of existentialism, absurdism and humanism.
