About the Artwork:

“My work ranges from art dolls and fine art sculpted figures all the way to doodles and scribbles that are childlike and stylized characters, but somewhere in the middle lies my favorite way to explore the most extreme and dark recesses of my mind and heart. I find that just beginning to draw without a sketch or plan is a very revealing and deeply personal experience. Through this process I reference life events, grief, personal symbols that can bring me back in time to a day, event or person. When I create these personal dark collages it really allows me to discover what I have even been hiding to myself. Using symbolism and often the language of “horror”, familiar stories and personal images I can seemingly create a snapshot of my consciousness or a dark dreamy collage that reveals all to me while remaining a shadowy maze to the viewer. To me this is comparable to automatic writing, where these unknown images come out during bouts of an artistic waking state trance or meditation.” – Kamila Mlynarczyk

About the Artist:

(Artist Bio)

Kamila is an Ontario-based artist. She made a name for herself with her horror-inspired art dolls. Her fresh, if gruesome, creations have been showcased internationally and she has garnered a sizeable online following. Kamila has always worked in various mediums, but over the past 8 years she has been what she terms “relearning how to draw” and drawing relentlessly.

Much of her inspiration comes from strange websites, good books, the horror that is the real world, images relevant to her life and memories. She strives to depict the most terrible things in a sympathetic light, and in that way they become more beautiful than reality, more light-hearted than realistically possible, and through their relatability they gain a sense of catharsis.
