About the Artwork:

“When I paint figurative trees I’m partly inspired by the folklore of the Green Man & Green Woman from pre-Christian times, when floral faces were typically carved into temples and gravestones. They were revered for ushering in the new cycle of growth each spring. But the main reason is my own love for nature and my desire to help people feel connected to forests. To the leaves, the grass, the bark, and the roots that are so important to life on our planet. We will never invent better technology than which grows right outside. I paint to honor the majesty and wisdom of trees.” – Adam S. Doyle

About the Artist:

(Artist Bio)

My work if fueled by a love for the human mark. Since our ancestors smeared pigment on cave walls in the shape of wildlife millennia ago, humanity’s legacy of asserting our existence is something built into being human. My work continues the tradition by keeping the stroke of paint visible.

Painting is also a transformation; the cave wall, the blank page, and the white canvas becomes a spacious place or a living, breathing being. I’m fascinated with this magical act. The unfinished quality to my work is about keeping this doorway between both worlds partly open.

Nature and wildlife are primary subjects for both the connection I feel towards them and the diverse metaphorical language they afford in communicating ideas.

My father is a physician who practised Chinese medicine specializing in acupuncture for 50 years. Because of him the idea of energy flowing through our bodies has been in my consciousness since childhood. Depicting energy is something I continue to explore in new directions, re-enchanting us with daily life.
