About the Artwork:
“Speed in freedom, freedom in speed, what a bliss to be a butterfly, a nocturnal predator without a mouth, a phantom despised by the light, oh yes, it is beautiful to be free, even if only for a single flight, faster thoughts, faster than fear, to be a shadow within the shadow. The wind sliced the giggling skull on my back, and, maybe every angel, that butterfly from a spiteful human caterpillar, is bothered by the same skull as I am. Then the Supreme Insect takes his tools, carefully pinning each angel and making him a part of his vast collection. Caterpillars he despises, stalking and mischievous, hands hopelessly flinging, too simple to be bothered by their demise; but the butterflies, oh yes, those He awaits, each one of them with its silk-like net. Innocent, joyful and charmingly monstrous.” – Petra Frankova
About the Artist:
(Artist Bio)
Petra is a traditional printmaker and illustrator from Czech Republic.
Her universe is one of almost tyrannical, symbolist harmony. The meticulous attention to detail combined with the unnamed feeling behind words, senses and meaning. Quiet, unmoving, perpetual gazing upon something charmingly familiar, yet strangely and deeply foreign. Alien, ambiguous, disconnected from our expectations and challenging ordinary perception – creatures humming silently, in their shattered words of dread and eeriness.
