About the Artwork:

In Roman mythology, the multiple facets of a woman were believed to be associated with the phases of the Moon.

The New Moon represented the Maiden Goddess Diana, Goddess of the Hunt and Fertility.

The Waxing and Full Moon represented Goddess Luna, Moon Goddess in Heaven.

The Darkening Moon represented Hecate, wise Goddess of Witchcraft and Magic.

Kirsten Schaap (@kirsketchbook) is an illustrator living and working in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Her work revolves around introspection, darkness, contrast and raw emotion- fear, loss and decay are recurring themes in her work. She mainly works in black-and-white and her work is drawn by hand using a stippling technique, which enables her to bring depth, texture and layers into her work. She is inspired by nature, mythology and science fiction.
