About the Artwork:

As an ongoing project right now I’m creating artworks under the theme of ”ecophobia”, where my thoughts on the possible mass extinction we are facing right now, is embodied through paintings of deceased animals. As a reminder that we will all die, although nature will recover itself, the only thing left after us humans are the remains we have left behind in the form of skulls. The fact that these works are also painted on wood gives an extra dimension to the message.

Death is something we don’t like to face and something we in a modern society do not encounter directly. It becomes something abstract. In my art, I want to visualize and bring to mind just that, hopefully as a warning signal that we must wake up and face the climate crisis, otherwise this will be our fate.

About the Artist:

(Artist Bio)

Sandra Hultsved is an artist born 1989 in the deep forests of Sweden. She started to create art like a form of therapy. The artworks convey thoughts and subconscious feelings that she could not express in any other way. After years of battling with her own thoughts and depression, she captures the tragedy and melancholy in a beautiful way.

Sandra is self-taught, mainly using oils on wood or canvas. She is no stranger to portray themes such as mental health, lust and death. With influences from both the old master’s classical techniques and the modern lowbrow/dark artists of today, combined with her own imagination and experimentation with the mediums. Nature – particularly the forests of Värmland, where she grew up, is always a huge source of inspiration. The forest is her safe haven to which she flees to endure a little bit longer. The same goes for her art.

She has been exhibiting her work all over the world, co-founded Memento Tea Gallery in 2018 and at the same time took the big leap to focus on her art as main occupation.
