About the Artist:

(Artist Bio)

Hello, my name is Philip Harris, and I am a freelance illustrator and printmaker living outside of Exeter. I have spent most of my life in Devon, and the region’s themes and influences are evident in my artwork. While at university, I inherited a collection of dip pens and nibs from my grandfather, who I never had the opportunity to meet. My grandfather’s legacy has significantly influenced my creative process, and I am passionate about using traditional mediums. Recently, I have begun exploring a new direction in my work by incorporating relief printing, which complements my current linework approach and allows me to develop my visual language and skill set.

The natural landscape is a significant source of inspiration in my work. For inspiration, I frequently explore the rugged Tors on Dartmoor, tranquil woodlands, and ever-changing coastlines. I use photographs and location sketches in my home studio to capture the essence of these terrains that have surrounded me my whole life. Drawing not only the beauty of the landscape but also the historical stories and folk tales that weave themselves throughout the fields and moors of this region of the UK. I find happiness in using the skills passed down by my grandfather to bring these stories together.
