“As a child I was frequented by a dream of sitting beside a swirling whirlpool. No matter how many times I’d had the dream, I’d always reach in for a spinning trident that I knew would make me powerful. I’d fall into the whirlpool and wake up from my dream with the feeling of falling and a racing heart. As an adult I no longer have this dream, but the memory of it still haunts me. My goal was capturing the feeling of potential, of striving for greatness despite the risks, and the whimsy of a childhood dream that felt full of magic.” – Cassandra Brown

Cassandra Brown is an acrylic and digital painter based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Often influenced by nature, nostalgia and narrative, she tends towards the use of bright colours blended with detailed realism. She is often exploring concepts of memory and cultural identity, how the sum of our values can be recorded in what we choose to remember or forget.
