About the Artwork:

Typically when I utilize wolves or canines in my works, I am reclaiming natural power in moments of powerlessness. I allow myself to visualize my rage in a way that gives me strength, and specifically in this piece, showing the power of influence and support, and how that bolsters oneself, depicted by many eyes of various styles. Each eye similar to the wolf’s represents an individual in my life who has helped build me, and the many eyes of those who came before me that helped bring me and keep me here. The Red Wolf is an intimate portrait honoring my heritage, friendships, determination, and persistence that has kept me alive and motivated in a surreal portrait. I chose a rendition of the Mexican Red Wolf as the subject by coincidence – considering they’re an endangered species of wolf, and yet still here, the animal brings additional significance to the piece. – Mx.
