About the Artwork:
‘Steel Bird on Meat Nest’ draws inspiration from the centuries old vanitas tradition; still life paintings that feature objects that symbolise the duality between the pleasures or vanities of life and the inescapable certainty of death. This piece uses its layered imagery to reflect on the interaction between the spiritual, the carnal and our ever present mortality.
About the Artist:
Beau White (Australia) is a hyperrealist and figurative oil painter who uses nightmarish imagery and absurdism to explore the darker side of the human condition. His work augments “real world” settings with grotesque and surprising handmade elements alongside found objects to create new perspectives on the everyday that are both comical and disturbing.
White’s work has been exhibited within Australia and internationally, at galleries such as Beinart Gallery in Melbourne, Last Rites in New York, and Copro Gallery in Los Angeles. In addition, his work has been shown in such publications as Dangerous Minds, Vice, Hi-Fructose and Juxtapoz.
