Thriae, or the Bee Maidens, in Greek mythology, were sisters, nymphs and the patrons of bees. They had women’s heads, torsos and lower body and wings of a bee and were romantically associated with Gods Apollo and Poseidon.

Kirsten Schaap (@kirsketchbook) is an illustrator living and working in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Her work revolves around introspection, darkness, contrast and raw emotion- fear, loss and decay are recurring themes in her work. She mainly works in black-and-white and her work is drawn by hand using a stippling technique, which enables her to bring depth, texture and layers into her work. She is inspired by nature, mythology and science fiction.
