About the Artwork:

“Lively potted yellow flowers appear delicately staged in an unfit, icy environment. Meanwhile, mysterious, darting eyes menacingly float overhead in a two-dimensional panel. The interplay between the scarce imagery creates a heavy sense of tension within the tight picture plane. Few and Far Between presents an imaginative and dreamlike corner of a world, devoid of logic, that seemingly expands into a bigger picture.” – Lolo Gem

About the Artist:

(Artist Bio)

Lolo Gem (b. 1995, Westchester, NY) is a Baltimore-based artist and illustrator. She received her BFA from The Maryland Institute College Of Art in 2017, and is currently an MFA candidate at Towson University. Working with a combination of acrylic paint and drawing materials, Gem personifies complex anxieties, fears, and ambiguous sensations into a cast of endearingly gloomy characters and playfully animated objects. Her work adopts a visual language consisting of personal symbols, along with repurposed imagery from vintage animation, comics, and toys.
