About the Artwork:
“This little piece was inspired by a 1910’s postcard I saw recently, featuring an illustration of a grinning black cat, with the text: “Keep Smiling! Let’s be content with our lot, even if it ain’t a lot!” The postcard and its message resonated with me, especially seeing it now when we’re all trying to get through a global pandemic and make the best of our time in lockdown. The frame is an original handmade “tramp art” piece, likely made during the Great Depression when crafting these intricate pieces out of cigar boxes and other found wood was popular. I thought it was fitting.” – Gretchen Lewis
