About the Artwork:

“When I was creating this piece I was reflecting on the roll of wolves here in the Pacific Northwest. In many rural areas there is a debate between conservationists and ranchers about the ethics of killing wolves who some deem to be a threat to livestock. Too often our learned compulsion when it comes to inconvenient aspects of the natural world is to destroy them. This piece depicts a wolf skull, juxtaposed with the casual waste of a Coors Light can to illustrate the how easily some cast aside the important roll of the predator within an eco-system.” – Susannah Kelly

About the Artist:

(Artist Bio)

Susannah Kelly’s works are informed by her own personal experiences and the associations she has formed around certain objects and images. The various vessels depicted represent the places in which fragments of memories, both physical and emotional, are kept. While this is a departure from her previous figure-focused work, Kelly continues to deal with human relationships in these drawings. Every memory is a conduit between the artist and the people she has known, a mental short-cut through a relationship she has been part of. Kelly’s work has always been reflective of real world, human interactions where someone’s deepest flaws often become the very reason you find them compelling. As an artist she is deeply interested in external and internal relationships and the inherent and complex trials of both.
