About the Artwork:
“This painting is part of an on-going miniseries that I’m contemplating these days, using the hair as a symbol of sorrow and a tangible aspect of femininity, as dictated by biology and defined by society. Femininity as a rebellious force to break from cultural prison. Femininity as a fluid and gentle virtue. Femininity as a hereditary trait. Femininity as a blessing and at the same time, a curse.” – Phuong ‘Jacquell’ Nguyen
About the Artist:
Phuong Nguyen is a painter from Vietnam who currently lives and works from Bologna, Italy. Her works suggest a gentle melancholy with grace and beauty. She believes that the life of a painting should be infinite and uses selected behaviours from the wild to convey the human condition and the emotions that surround it. Realistic with a hint of the surreal, her pieces are created using watercolours.
