“As the longest living insects, cicadas are seen to many as symbolic of transformation and of growth and renewal, and after remaining underground for years, emerge from their dormant states with vigor and purpose and clarity. In this sense I often like to imagine a major positive change in one’s life as a shedding of a former self and a chance to begin anew.” – Lachlan Herrick
