About the Artwork:
She always came home at the same time in the morning. The sun had not yet risen but the birds had already begun to sing. It was May and she wasn’t that cold anymore, a cool breeze brushed her swollen red cheeks. She was downcast. Another day of work, another night ended, always in the same way, always the same. “Will it be like this forever?” She thought sadly. Sometimes she didn’t weigh her that much, but on other evenings, while she was getting ready to leave the house, she would rather scream, pass out, run away, kill herself rather than go to work. But then she always went there. As if persecuted, she put on her shoes, closed the door, four key turns above and two below, turned on the light, went down the stairs, this damned door is very heavy, and she found herself in the almost dark street, the street lamps already lit. She was ready for a new night. The whole town would return home and she would go out. And at the end of her employment, when she came home, the whole country woke up. In fact, shortly thereafter she would have heard a faint roar, a sign of thousands of alarm clocks that at that time rang annoying for the inhabitants of the popular neighborhood; she listened and a shy but malevolent smile appeared on her face. “Now you go to work…” she thought. The street was always dark, always damp. The street lamps were off. She was going up the stairs. She was at home. That morning, dejected, she washed quickly and then collapsed to the ground. It was too much, she couldn’t take one more day. She plotted to escape that evening. “I’m leaving. Where I go? Anywhere is better than here”. She heard a noise. Four key turns above and two below. Her chaotic thoughts about her were interrupted by her roommate, her best friend, who was coming home too. “What a bad night!” she shrieked smiling. “How nice to be home, let me take off these evil shoes!”. She didn’t answer. “How are you?” Croaked her friend, with that hoarse voice so familiar. She again didn’t answer. Her friend looked at her, stood in front of her. She tilted her head to study her and slumped beside her. “I can’t wait to go to the beach this summer, the place we booked is wonderful, I’m already there with my head” she told her. “Would you like to start that series that I told you yesterday while we eat?” she proposed her. Maybe all is not lost, she thought. A gap of light and air appeared in her head. Ok. The beach. The sea. Summer is near. She was hungry. She was breathing again. “Yes, come on, she seemed nice to me” she finally replied to her friend, with an awkward smile. “I’ll prepare the food”.
