About the Artwork:

“This piece was inspired by the most infamous danish witch trails against Maren Splids in Ribe. After two acquittals, she was by order of the king himself, submitted to a third trail and subsequently found guilty of witchcraft. She met her fate at the stake on November 10th 1641. This painting is inspired by one of her named familiars. A little devil in the guise of a tiny red dog called Andreas.” – Anja Altenburg
