About the Artwork:

“Over the years, I have been collecting vintage photographs that I find in flea markets and antique shops. My favorites showcase a glimpse of a seemingly bigger narrative. In my collection, I have two photos of women in bars. The first photo shows what seems to be the only woman in a bar full of men. The second photo shows a woman dancing on the bar. I wanted to create pieces that highlight these women’s contrasting experiences.” – Ellen Surrey
