About the Artwork:

PLA is a bioplastic derived from corn starch and sugarcane. In our daily lives, we often encounter it in short-lived food packaging and single-use bottles. After fulfilling its original function, the PLA used in these sculptures was reclaimed and recycled into 3D printing filament. Using this renewed material and a 3D pen, the plastic takes on a new purpose—art. In form, the sculptures return to the material’s botanical origins. This bloom, however, will outlast the lifespans of both plant and artist. – Michael Dandley
