About the Artwork:
“Recently I’ve been enjoying drawing/painting fruit and flowers, so I decided to paint a lemon that is positioned and cut in a way that looks like how you might normally see a flower represented. However, it is in a state of decay to reflect the figure’s glum mood.
This piece is a mix of a painterly style with flat blocks of color and linework; this combination of styles is a common feature in my paintings.” – Julian Callos

I’ve explored a wide variety of subjects in my work (which can range from lighthearted takes on popular culture to darker, symbolism-filled narratives), but I am continuously fascinated by nature, folklore, death, and the allure of the unknown.
