About the Artwork:

“Sometimes when you’re given too much space to play with, it can be hard to narrow down a concept to work with. When I find myself struggling, I use word stacks and word association to start feeling out some ideas. I started the title of the group show Monochromagic. From there took the words “monochromatic” “mono” & “magic” and wrote down every word that I associated with these themes. And after looking over my notes (that look like the ramblings of a madman) the phrase “last of” and “mythical” jumped out to. And then the idea of being unappreciative of An outstanding individual, or shooting down someone better to build yourself up came to mind. And visually showing this both literally (with the arrows knocking down their target) and metaphorically (having our outstanding person be shown as a mythical creature and like no other).” – Maggie Ivy
